Actually when you think about it, they don't know what any minerals(including coal) are. They have never gone below the surface to actually experience any of the minerals(that's besides the Moonstone)

Coal is also a descriptive way of color. 'The coal-furred tom' Coal refers to a pitch black, possibly A black with gray spots, due to the coal's reflection on the sun. A cat named Coalpaw would only be in Mountainclan, as the coal often exposes itself in the snow and the mountains. Keep in mind that Mountainclan will know minerals, because they're in a rough terrain where there are ores sticking out and snow covering them.

I supose it was a bad example, but no limestonepaw or quartzpaw. No cat would know about thaty
